Dear readers,
We do Halloween an injustice if we describe it as "commercialism from the USA". Originally, it was a Catholic festival, mainly celebrated in Ireland. Irish emigrants brought the custom to the United States of America and Canada in the 19th century, where it developed into a popular festival (if you like, you can visit read here).
Halloween doesn't spill over from the USA, but back
Not even the custom of cutting out pumpkins originated in the USA, but also in Ireland. According to history, it was actually supposed to be carrots (read all about it here), but there were plenty of pumpkins in the USA, so that the celebrators there changed their minds. Going from door to door also originated overseas. But despite all the criticism, the origins are Catholic and European.
